We at Land of Lincoln Legal Aid were deeply saddened that attorney John Phipps passed away this August. John Phipps was one of the original founders of our organization. In 1972, he signed our original incorporating documents and eagerly sat on our Board of Directors. In 1983, he was elected Chair and President of our Board and actively served in that role until 1994, when he stepped down. He continued to serve on our Board until his death. We will miss his warmth, good humor, and enthusiasm for our work.
We are grateful for the 48 years John spent with Land of Lincoln to ensure access to justice for low-income Illinoisans.
In honor of his dedication, our Board of Directors has decided to rename our Champaign office, the John Phipps Community Law Center. When the pandemic abates and health and safety regulations allow, we will have an event at our Champaign office to rename it and recognize John.
